Happy Dance Seaglass

What started out as making gifts for friends has evolved into Happy Dance Seaglass. I was born in Devon in the south west of England and have always held a deep passion for all things ‘beachy’. I am now lucky enough to live near the stunning north east coast where a rich source of seaglass can be found washed up onto its beaches, most notably Seaham, which is world famous for its sea glass.

I have been very fortunate over the years to meet many people both local and those who travel from all over the world to find sea glass at Seaham and the surrounding area.

Glass making in the north east of England was once a thriving industry. The waste glass at the end of the day was discarded into the sea and now, 170 years later, the glass, once waste, has been tumbled, frosted and turned into little pebbles of beauty.

My work is contemporary and is inspired by nature. Some of my work features sea pottery that has also been found along the coastline. Every piece of seaglass which I use is genuine and has been hand-picked by me or occasionally (under some duress) by my husband and teenage sons. Each design will vary slightly and, due to the variance of the glass, is truly unique.

All of my art work is framed using acrylic ‘glass’ and personally signed. I am also very happy to personalise work on request.

Why ‘Happy Dance Seaglass’? The term ‘happy dance’ is often used by sea glass collectors to describe the moment when a special piece of glass is found. Therefore, if ever you are visiting the north east coast and there is a person jumping up and down with glee it could be me, happy dancing !
